My home. ( queen of vague answers here for her crown. but that's almost a painfully clipped answer, so clarke eventually elaborates. )

I was born on the 12 combined space stations, and we called it the Ark.

Is there extensive travel between the planet and the stations?

We were rotating just beyond the atmosphere, the standard 270 miles. It only took a few minutes for us to reach Earth's surface, and that was in a very old dropship.
